EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS As you know, millions of disadvantage youth and their families have limited or no access to the information highway and this is referred to as the Digital Divide. By gaining access to technology, youth can increase their educational achievements, lead healthier lives, prepare for employment and become building blocks for their local community. We are currently planning two events with both our organizations to address this concern and the following information will give you a greater understanding of these programs. 1st Annual Technology Youth Sports Games ![]() 1st Annual Technology Youth Sports Games is uniquely designed to both maximize, improve the understanding of, and to gain better access to, gaming technology platforms and products while providing entertainment and assistance in bridging the Digital Divide that separate disadvantage youth. Staggs Jr Tech-In-A Bag Giveaway Program ![]() April age 13, Spartanburg, SC ![]() Date & Time August 7th, 2008 from 3pm - 5:30pm Location Salvation Army Community Center The mission of the Tech-In-Bag Giveaway Program is to empower low- income youth by providing quality technology products and resources which will serve to enhance their learning environment. Our goal is to meet the limited technology access of the children in the Spartanburg community so they can have access to technology that can enhance their learning experience at school. This will prepare our youth starting the school year motivated, confident, and ready to learn. We hope to have this program the last week of July 2008. South Carolina Technology Access Advocacy Program Providing research and case studies that show how digital tools and applications can improve low income youth and family education, health, employment, and civic opportunities. This research and case studies will urge groups working on low income youth and families issues to include technology access in their platforms and policy agendas. In addition to working for equitable access to digital tools for underserved families, the research will encourages leaders of low income youth to lobby for changes in public programs serving low income families to make them more effective, efficient and accessible by incorporating information and communications technology. |
